📝 Ohio Department of Education End‑of‑Course (EOC) Assessments

Ohio Department of Education End‑of‑Course (EOC) Assessments are standardized tests designed to measure how well high school students have mastered the content in specific subject areas. These exams are required for graduation and are aligned with Ohio’s Learning Standards.
At Horizon Science Academy of Lorain, students take EOC assessments in subjects such as Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, U.S. History, U.S. Government, and English Language Arts. The results help evaluate student readiness, guide instruction, and ensure students are on track to meet state graduation requirements.

🗣️ Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA)

The Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA) is a state‑required test for students who are identified as English Learners (ELs). It measures students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English and helps determine the level of language support they need.
At Horizon Science Academy of Lorain, students in grades K–12 who are learning English take the OELPA each spring. The results guide instruction, support services, and help monitor progress toward English language proficiency.

📘 i-Ready

i-Ready is an online learning program designed to help us identify your student’s strengths and areas for growth. It personalizes their learning experience and allows us to track their academic progress throughout the school year. i-Ready helps us meet students at their individual learning levels and provides valuable data to guide our instruction.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts the difficulty of questions based on how a student responds. Each new question is determined by the answer to the previous one. For example, if a student answers several questions correctly, the following questions become slightly more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the questions become a bit easier. The goal of this assessment is not to assign a score or grade, but to better understand how we can support each student’s learning needs.

At Horizon Science Academy, students in grades K–12 will take the i-Ready Diagnostic assessment twice a year—in the fall and again in the spring.
