Mr. Ellis

Mr. Ellis is a Lorain native and has been teaching since 2020. He holds a B.A. in History from Baldwin Wallace University, an M.A. in American History and Government from Ashland University, where he later completed the Bachelor’s Plus program in Education. While at BW, his thesis paper on the Northern Ohio sandstone industry was published in a history journal. In 2016 he studied abroad at Christ University in Bangalore, India.

He is especially interested in local history, having interned at the Lorain County Historical Society. He has worked in public libraries and law firms as well as several schools where he taught every grade from K-12, providing him with a well-rounded perspective on student learning and development. He considers it a great honor to help build a better future for the Lorain community and Horizon Science Academy gives him the opportunity to do just that by teaching high school social studies.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Ellis has coached Academic Challenge (he led his 7/8th grade team to a first place victory in Lorain County in 2024) and Geography Club. He and his wife Lauren have been together for 14 years and they have two rescue cats. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, writing mystery stories, retro video games, bike rides, book club with friends, and watching movies, especially on VHS tapes on old televisions for the ambience.
