Jalicia Smalley, who is a senior at HSA is no stranger to success at the highest level. In 2015-16, she received 1st place out of 554 projects for her science project at the North Eastern Ohio Science and Engineering Fair (NEOSEF). She also received the grand prize, and qualified to participate in the International Science and Engineering Fair (INTEL ISEF), which is the biggest science fair in the world. There she competed with more than 1,750 students from all 50 states and more than 75 countries, for prizes and scholarships totaling 5 million dollars.
From that success, she continued to work hard and was recently honored this past December with national recognition from the NCWIT (National Center for Women & Information Technology). She received the “Honorable Mention” designation which is a prestigious honor when you consider that only 350 National Honorable Mention Award recipients are selected throughout the United States.
Furthermore, Jalicia also earned a full academic scholarship’s totaling $117,800.00 to be used towards her post-secondary education at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
