Parent Ambassador Program Overview

This is a program for parents/guardians of current and former students in grades K-12. The purpose of the Parent Ambassador Committee is to further develop a team of leaders who will be responsible for representing our school at various events and school functions. HSA is seeking parents to participate in the 2017-18 Parent Ambassador Committee. The Parent Ambassador Committee builds the skills, knowledge, and confidence of parents to advocate for their children, as well as become partners with our school, and propel the school to new heights of achievement.  We plan to hold a series of short meetings to train parents and to answer any questions you may have about the roles and responsibilities of the parent ambassadors. Details are provided below:

The overall objectives of the program are to:

  • Increase parent knowledge about local and state educational issues
  • Engage parents in coalitions and partnership-building efforts
  • Encourage and increase the civic involvement of parents in local and state education policy issues

The Parent Ambassador Committee will be made up of parent leaders trained to engage in local and statewide advocacy campaigns, increase awareness among parents about key education policy issues, and help engage other parents in education advocacy efforts. 

Parent Ambassadors are expected to:

  • Attend an orientation meeting
  • Participate in a one-day training session
  • Support and participate in strategy meetings throughout the year
  • Be present at school related events and functions

Benefits of the program include:

  • Learn and strengthen skills, knowledge, and confidence to better serve and advocate for students  
  • Develop and build relationships with other parent leaders, community leaders and school representatives.
  • Sponsored opportunities for Parent Ambassadors to travel for advocacy-related activities, conferences, and events
  • Certificate of Completion at the program’s culmination
  • Invitation to a special recognition event for 2018-19 Parent Ambassadors Committee Luncheon

Key Dates

  • October 5, 2018– Parent Ambassador Application Forms Due
  • November 6, 2018– Initial Orientation Meeting from 5:15pm to 6: 30pm
  • Monthly Meeting Dates- Advocacy Training Sessions – 5pm to 6pm on a day last Tuesday’s of every month
