Pablo Picasso once said, “Everything you can imagine is real.” This is the very idea that Ms. Vien portrays to her students every day and you can see the results from year to year.
Recently, Second Grader Leia Ramos won 1st place in the K-2 division of the Midwest Charter Schools Art Competition! This contest includes thousands of students from Charter Schools in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio. The theme this year was, “You’re my Hero, Because…” In her winning composition (see image below), Leia portrayed her older sister as her hero, shining a flashlight to light up the night. Leia said, “My sister is my hero because she always protects me. At night time she shows me not to be afraid of the dark.” Leia will be the recipient of $100, a trophy, and have her piece featured on the National Charter Schools Institute website.
Also, recognized this year is second grader, Alexis Olds. Alexis is being awarded an Honorable Mention for a portrayal of her hero, Taylor Swift. Finally, we also had two special acknowledgements for Fourth Graders, Veronica Rivera and Jazmin Padin. This is the third year in a row that our school has been recognized for achievements in Art.
In closing, we are very proud of our students and Ms. Vien for leading the way and inspiring our students with Art Education. Click here to visits the National Charter Schools website to view their work ( https://nationalcharterschools.org/art-contest/).
